A doctor home visit allows a child or adult to receive medical assessment at their place of residence. Subject to prior booking and doctor availability, Republikas laukuma klīnika arranges home visits by family doctors and pediatricians in Riga.
The price of a family doctor or pediatrician home visit is €200.
A pediatrician home visit may be suitable when a child is unwell and needs to be examined in a familiar and calm environment. A family doctor home visit may be helpful for adults and older patients who find it difficult to travel to the clinic because of illness or limited mobility.
During the visit, the doctor assesses the patient, performs a physical examination and provides recommendations concerning treatment, additional tests or the need to attend a hospital.

Pediatrician home visit
A pediatrician home visit may be helpful when a child has:
- a raised temperature;
- a runny nose, cough or sore throat;
- ear pain;
- vomiting or diarrhea;
- abdominal pain;
- a skin rash;
- weakness or reduced appetite;
- persistent or recurring symptoms;
- a need for assessment after an infection.
During the visit, the pediatrician discusses the child’s symptoms with the parents, reviews how the illness has developed and examines the child.
Depending on the child’s age and symptoms, the doctor may assess their breathing, listen to the lungs and heart, examine the throat, ears and skin, and examine the abdomen.
The pediatrician then explains the recommended care, treatment and any additional tests that may be needed.
Family doctor home visit
A family doctor home visit may be appropriate for adults and older patients who cannot easily attend the clinic because of an acute illness, chronic health condition or limited mobility.
A home visit may be requested for symptoms or circumstances such as:
- a raised temperature;
- cough, runny nose or sore throat;
- general weakness;
- changes in blood pressure;
- worsening of a chronic medical condition;
- limited mobility;
- the need for an assessment after hospital treatment;
- questions about further tests or treatment.
During the visit, the family doctor assesses the patient’s symptoms and general condition, performs an examination that is possible in the home environment, reviews current medication and provides recommendations.
What can the doctor do during a home visit?
The examination depends on the patient’s age, symptoms, health and the doctor’s specialty.
During a home visit, the doctor may:
- discuss the development of the illness;
- perform a physical examination;
- measure body temperature;
- assess breathing;
- listen to the lungs and heart;
- measure blood pressure and pulse;
- examine the throat, ears or skin;
- examine the abdomen;
- review current medication;
- recommend treatment;
- request laboratory tests or further examinations;
- recommend hospital assessment when necessary.
A home visit does not provide all the diagnostic facilities available at a clinic or hospital. If further testing is necessary, the doctor will explain the appropriate next steps.
