When contacting the clinic, ask for a remote pediatric consultation and provide your child’s age and the main reason for the appointment.

She advises on the health of newborns, infants and children, feeding, development and everyday care. She also helps parents understand when an in-person examination is necessary. Infant cranial ultrasound is performed in person.

What Can You Discuss During a Remote Pediatrician Consultation?

A remote consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your child’s health, share your observations and agree on the next steps. The paediatrician can help assess whether home care and monitoring are appropriate or whether your child needs an in-person examination.

Topics may include:

  • symptoms of illness and how they have changed;
  • previously prescribed treatment and questions about medication;
  • blood test and other investigation results;
  • nutrition, eating habits and introducing solid foods;
  • sleep and daily routines;
  • vaccination;
  • everyday care of newborns and infants;
  • follow-up questions after an in-person appointment.

The doctor assesses whether a remote consultation is suitable based on your child’s age, symptoms and the information available.

Pediatrician Consultation by Phone

A telephone consultation is a convenient way to discuss your child’s health, clarify previous advice or review test results.

The paediatrician will ask about your child’s symptoms, how long they have been present, general wellbeing and any treatment already given. Parents can ask questions and receive advice on the next steps.

If an examination or further investigations are needed, the doctor will recommend an in-person appointment.

Pediatrician Consultation by Video

A video consultation allows the doctor to see your child during the conversation. This can provide additional information about their activity, behaviour and visible changes.

Your child should preferably be with you during the call, in a well-lit room. Choose a quiet place where you can speak comfortably.

A video consultation cannot replace a full physical examination. The doctor cannot listen to your child’s lungs, examine their abdomen or inspect their ears with an otoscope remotely. If necessary, the paediatrician will recommend an in-person examination.

Evening and Weekend Paediatric Consultations

Questions about your child’s health can arise outside regular working hours. At Republikas laukuma klīnika, remote pediatric consultations can also be arranged in the evenings and at weekends.

Consultations require advance booking. Contact the clinic to find out the next available appointment.

Your call to reception is for arranging an appointment. The consultation with the doctor takes place separately at the agreed time.

How Does a Remote Consultation Work?

  1. Contact the clinic. Provide your child’s age, the reason for the consultation and your preferred format — phone or video.
  2. Agree on an appointment time. The clinic will explain availability and payment arrangements.
  3. Prepare the relevant information. If you wish to discuss test results or medical records, ask how to submit them to the doctor in advance.
  4. Attend the consultation. The pediatrician will discuss your child’s health, answer your questions and provide advice.
  5. Agree on the next steps. If needed, the doctor will recommend an in-person examination, tests or other investigations.

How Should You Prepare?

Write down your main questions and have the following information ready:

  • your child’s age and current weight, if known;
  • when symptoms started and how they have changed;
  • temperature readings and information about wellbeing, eating, drinking and urination;
  • medication names, doses and the times they were given;
  • known allergies and long-term medical conditions;
  • test results or medical documents you wish to discuss.

For a video consultation, you will need a stable internet connection and a working camera and microphone. Ask the clinic about connection arrangements when booking.

When Is an In-Person Examination Needed?

A remote consultation can help determine the next steps, but a conversation alone is not always sufficient to establish a diagnosis or choose treatment.

An in-person appointment may be necessary if the doctor needs to listen to your child’s lungs, inspect their ears or throat, examine their abdomen or carry out further investigations. If the paediatrician recommends an in-person examination, please do not delay it.

In a life-threatening situation, such as severe breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness or being unable to wake your child, do not wait for a remote consultation — call 113 in Latvia.

Remote Pediatric Consultation Fee

Consultation by phone or video: €60.

If a separate in-person appointment, laboratory tests or other investigations are needed afterwards, ask the clinic about their cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we book if we live outside Riga?

Yes. Phone and video consultations allow families in other towns and regions of Latvia to speak to a paediatrician.

Are consultations available in the evenings and at weekends?

Yes, by prior appointment through the clinic. Contact reception to agree on an available time.

Can we get a same-day consultation?

This depends on the doctor’s availability. Contact the clinic to find out the earliest available appointment.

Does my child need to be present?

This depends on the reason for the consultation. If you are discussing current symptoms, your child should preferably be with you, particularly during a video consultation.

Can we discuss test results?

Yes. Tell the clinic when booking and ask how to submit the results to the doctor before the appointment.

Can the paediatrician issue a prescription remotely?

The doctor will assess whether the available information is sufficient and whether remote prescribing is appropriate in your child’s case. A prescription is not a guaranteed outcome of the consultation.

Does a remote consultation replace an in-person appointment?

Some questions can be addressed remotely, while others require a physical examination. The paediatrician will explain the most appropriate next steps.
